Top places to visit when in Panama

There are several touristy destinations any traveler should see when they are heading to Panama. Here is our top of the list and where we visited on our short trip to Panama.

  1. Panama City is the capital of Panama and is a modern metropolis with a vibrant cultural scene. It is home to a number of world-class museums, art galleries, and theaters, as well as trendy bars and restaurants. You may also do the ancon hill climb in the city which gives you a nice view of both the east (ocean view) and west (rainforest view) of the country.

  2. Casco Viejo is the historic district of Panama City and is filled with colorful colonial-era buildings, quaint cafes, and charming plazas. It's a great place to stroll around and soak up the city's history and culture. This is where we recommend you spend your evenings, especially the weekend, the rooftop bars and restaurant are amazing environment with fresh food.

  3. The Panama Canal is one of the most famous engineering marvels in the world, and is definitely a must-see for anyone visiting Panama. Visitors can take a boat tour or watch ships passing through the locks from observation decks. Definitely worth seeing this amazing man-made lake and the ships passing through the canal many times a day.

  4. Tobago is an island located off the northeast coast of Panama, and is known for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and laid-back Caribbean vibe. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, diving, and fishing, or simply relax on the beach and soak up the sun.

  5. Colon is a city located on the Caribbean coast of Panama, and is known for its historic architecture and bustling port. Visitors can explore the city's colorful colonial-era buildings, or take a boat tour of the Panama Canal and see ships passing through the locks. Colon is also a great base for exploring nearby attractions such as the San Lorenzo Fort and the Portobelo National Park.

  6. The San Blas Islands are a group of over 350 small islands located off the coast of Panama in the Caribbean Sea. The islands are known for their white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant coral reefs.

While this does not include all of the top destinations and other places that may have been mentioned by other travelers, it’s a good starter list for anyone. Stay tuned for our travel destination series on Panama which will include more on transportation, food and different aspects of the trip.
